My Online Tools for Minding the Home

October 29th, 2008

I love pencil and paper and I love the feeling of writing things down, but I also love the streamline feeling of using the computer to help mind our home. In the past few years, I’ve come upon some neat and helpful websites to guide me through some of the different aspects of keeping our finances organized and our schedule less of a mess. Here are a few of the websites and software downloads that I have found the most helfpul

Cozi - Cozi is an online schedule to help you map our family’s daily activities. Simply put in each family member (don’t forget your pets - They have appointments, too.) and you’re ready to go. I love that you can also download the screensaver program to your computer. My son’s love watching the collage of pictures while I love the snapshot of my upcoming schedule

Mint - Mint has helped me to minimize the amount of time I spend checking account balances. Take time to enter each one of your accounts and necessary sign in information and you’ll only have to visit Mint to see what your credit card, checking, savings, and investment balances look like. Mint will also notify you if there is any odd behavior on any of your accounts and with your budgeting information entered, it will let you know when you’ve passed your budget goals.

GoodReads - GoodReads is where I store all of the books I have read, want to read, or am currently reading. I love that I can share my lists and reviews with friends. Reading is a huge part of our family’s lives and it’s great to know that I can check it to see what books I had wanted to read and it lets my friends know what we have available to lend out.

Wishpot - As a Wishpot Mom Expert, I’ve create a few registries for moms and moms to be. I loved the layout so much, we’ve already begun to use Wishpot to let our families know what to get our sons for Christmas. Whenever I see something that would be perfect, I click the Wishpot button I added to my browser and choose which of my wish lists it belongs. It’s simple and easy and I won’t forget that PERFECT gift.

It’s your turn. What computer tools do you use to mind your home?
