Getting Ready for the Cold Weather

October 31st, 2008

Much to my displeasure, we are definitely approaching winter.  If you live in a climate with strong seasonal changes, as I do, then now is the time to change up your beauty/skin care routine for the new season.

First of all, even though it is no longer summer, it’s still important to keep sunscreen in your daily routine.  The sun is still potentially damaging in the winter, and while it’s not as hot, it can still burn you.

The dry air caused by heating systems can definitely dehydrate your skin, so now is a good time to upgrade your moisturizer to something more emollient.  I really like the moisturizers by Paula’s Choice, which are high-quality and reasonably priced, or by Vichy, which are available at CVS and are also reasonably priced.

If you wear foundation, consider using one that is more moisturizing.  I like the foundation stick by Bobbi Brown and the liquid foundations by Trish McEvoy.  Finally, you may find that you will need a slightly more creamy face wash.  Again, Paula’s Choice makes a great cleanser!

What do you do to prepare your skin for winter?

Use a good humidifier to keep moisture levels in the home up high. Also, having a number of plants around the house to provide some Oxygen and green life to the house is good.

Burt’s Bee Balm is really good too.
