Decorating with Better Homes and Gardens

October 8th, 2008

One of my favorite magazines and sources of home minding inspiration is "Better Homes and Gardens." I was very inspired by the recent issue and their lovely ideas on how to decorate for the upcoming Fall and Halloween season. Living in a very warm climate has left my family (originally from the northeast) missing the colors, the foliage, and the cool weather of Autumn. I’ve tried my best to bring the fall into our home with gourds, leaves, jack-o-lanterns, and some spooky spiders. One idea that I recently discovered from Melissa of The Inspired Room is the use of mason jars, a small votive or thin pillar candle, and candy corn. I loved the look so much. I purchased the jars, some new autumn-y scented and colored votives, and placed some jack-o-lantern glass scatters I had inside. I love it and I’ll be sure to use them again in the future.

If you need a little inspiration for the Fall Season, check out Better Homes and Gardens’ 100 Days of Holidays. Take a look at some unique and fun ways to use gourds, including plain old pumpkins, as vases, planters, and even candy dishes. I never would have thought of using smaller gourds as candle holders, but the look is rustic and eye catching. The best part of these decorating ideas…they are all do-able…not expensive, time-consuming, or difficult for us non-Martha Stewart types. You can also sign up to receive the 100 Days of Holidays Newsletter for more holiday decorating ideas.

How have you been decorating for the season and the upcoming Halloween festivities?

Glad you liked that mason jar idea, I sure use it a LOT! :-)
That simplifies things for me, I can always pull out those mason jars!
