Before I had kids, I always wore makeup, every single day. It’s just a part of who I am. After having my first child, I wanted to retain some of myself, despite the fact that I was exhausted and very, very busy. Adopting a very modified makeup routine is a great way for a new mom to feel good.
I’d recommend using products that you already use, but to a much more limited extent. The essential products for me were concealer (to cover my dark circles and my post pregnancy acne), moisturizer, tinted lip balm, and eyeliner.
First, put moisturizer on the dry areas of your face. Then, using a small brush, lightly place concealer on the dark areas under your eyes, as well as on any other areas of discoloration, such as acne scars. For very dark circles, Trish McEvoy makes a luminous concealer that works really well! Lightly tap your finger over the concealer to blend it in (don’t rub - tap!).
If you use eyeliner, then place is as close to your lash line as possible, so that it blends in. Then, use a sponge, tissue, or brush to blend it. Finally, lip balm or gloss can be used to prevent chapped lips and brighten up your lips!
One product I would recommend skipping during this exhausting time is mascara. While I love wearing mascara, I often find that it makes tired eyes look ever more tired. This new mom look is all about making you look radiant, not even more tired than you are!
