I’ll admit that although I’m always wearing makeup, I often skip a salon pedicure. I do occasionally get one, for a special occasion, but the idea of the bacteria in the tubs keeps me away on a regular basis (and don’t even get me started on those gross dead skin eating fish in Virginia!). While my at home pedicure doesn’t look nearly as nice as a salon pedicure, it’s a good, safe and reasonably priced alternative.
To get my nails looking top notch, there are a few products I use and recommend:
1) The Ped-Egg - chances are, you’ve seen the Ped-Egg. It’s widely available in Walmart, Target, CVS, and other retailers. After it was recommended to me, I purchased mine at Target, and am very pleased with how it works. It’s highly effective, getting rid of rough, dry skin, in a clean, efficient manner.
2) Boots Mediterranean Olive, Almond & Sage Wonderbalm - this actually comes with a warning - “Not Food - Do not Eat!”. It smells wonderful, and is moisturizing and can be used on feet, lips, elbows, and cuticles. It’s great at night especially, to moisturize your feet while you sleep!
Do you have any suggestions for other at-home pedicures? I’d love to hear them!

If you want white french tips, all you need is some white nail polish, clear polish, acetone and an eyeshadow brush. I used to do this all the time pre-baby and now I barely have time to CUT my nails much less polish them
But I would first paint on the white (it can be sloppy) and then I’d go back with the eyeshadow brush dipped in acetone to make a clean curve. Then just finish with a clear coat. With a little practice, it’ll look as good as a pro job. Equally pretty on fingernails and toenails!

I am a licensed nail technician and national educator for a gel nail manuf. company. I have to agree with you on the pedicure safety. There are many “discount” salons popping up on corners everywhere….where sanitation and service isn’t their top priority. Soaking at home in your own tub is the best idea, as well a great home regimen for various foot issues is called “FootLogix”. Excellent line!
